In-Depth Exploration of Medexx IPL Filters
At the heart of Medexx’s IPL E-Light technology lies a sophisticated system of filters. This means our device precisely targets specific concerns by optimizing light absorption by key chromophores in the skin.

480nm Filter (Acne Therapy):
- Photodynamic Effect: Light is absorbed by porphyrins produced by Propionibacterium acnes, generating a bactericidal effect that combats the bacteria responsible for acne.
- Photothermolytic Effect: This causes photothermolysis of the blood vessels that supply the sebaceous glands, resulting in a reduction of sebum secretion.
530nm Filter (Melasma/Hyperpigmentation):
- The selective treatment of pigmented lesions is based on the principle of selective thermolysis.
- Melanin acts as the primary chromophore, and the light causes fragmentation, vacuolization, or a combination of both in melanocytes, thereby reducing the number of pigment-producing cells.
590nm Filter (Skin Rejuvenation):
- This filter promotes an increase in Type I and Type III collagen fibers after treatment, which contributes to improving skin texture and firmness.
- It allows for the treatment of large skin surfaces such as the face, neck, décolletage, and back of the hands, without the need for a recovery period.
640nm Filter (Hair Removal):
- Light is absorbed by the melanin present in the hair shaft.
- This absorption converts light energy into heat, causing irreversible damage to the hair follicle, which prevents future hair growth. The absorption coefficient is higher in darker hairs.
690nm Filter (Vascular Treatment):
- Induces photothermolysis that selectively destroys vascular lesions without affecting adjacent structures.
- The primary chromophore in this case is oxyhemoglobin, which, upon absorbing light, transforms into heat, coagulating the blood vessels and facilitating their elimination.
Basic Principles of IPL Technology
The operation of IPL technology is based on the absorption of photons by endogenous and exogenous chromophores present in the skin. When interacting with light, these chromophores, such as hemoglobin, melanin, and water, transfer light energy, generating heat. This thermal process leads to the selective destruction of target structures, a phenomenon known as thermolysis. Unlike lasers, IPL does not require monochromatic light to achieve this effect, which grants it great versatility.
Interchangeable HD-23 Filters
This system incorporates an innovative bifocal filter system that allows for customizing the wavelength for each specific treatment.
Self-Cooling Handpiece
The handpiece features a continuously cooling head, enhancing comfort during the procedure.
Digital Touch Screen Display
Facilitates navigation and control of treatment parameters.
